Whispermat
| Whispermat
is a noise control material specifically designed to achieve maximum
attenuation over a broad frequency range. Whispermat combines
dense, limp, flexible, non-lead loaded barriers with Hushcloth© foams providing a total noise control
system. Unlike other composites available, these multilayer
systems are manufactured without costly adhesives, thus eliminating
the potential for failure between layers.
Designed by acoustical
engineers, Whispermat has been optimized to economically provide:
- High
Transmission Loss - The barrier's ability to impede airborne
noise.
- High
Noise Reduction Coefficients - The foam's ability to
absorb airborne sound energy with minimum reflection.
- Damping
- The composite's ability to attenuate structure-borne vibration
on metals and plastics thereby reducing reradiate noise and material
fatigue.
The diversity
of constructions makes possible engineered solutions for most OEM
and in-plant applications. Whispermat is available with single
and double layer septums, various barrier weights, foam thicknesses
and a variety of surface treatments. Whispermat is available
in rolls, sheets, die cut or fabricated to customer specifications
or can be easily cut with a knife or scissors. These composites
can be adhered to the substrate with factory supplied, economical,
SBR pressure sensitive adhesive or an acrylic based pressure sensitive
adhesive for temperatures up to 250o F. It is
recommended that a contact adhesive or mechanical fasteners be used
for these heavily loaded composites in overhead applications.
Many
OEM customers have dB Engineering cut their acoustical material
into parts so that assembly can be made easily at their
facility. These parts can be shipped by the part number
as seen in this photo, or sent as a predetermined "kit."
These "kits" consist of several different parts
that are grouped together to go to one particular product
on the assembly line. (Click

Whispermat non-reinforced
barrier septum is a flexible vinyl used by itself or in combination
with absorptive material as an additive mass treatment for existing
equipment enclosures or housings, and as a pipe or duct wrap.
Whispermat reinforced vinyl is used in conjunction with grommets
and Velcro to provide a suspended enclosure for in-plant applications.
It is available with quilted or encapsulated fiberglass for added
absorption and to meet Class A flammability requirements.

Acoustical foam is
the most versatile of all noise control materials. dB Engineering has
the right foam for your application.
NOISE BARRIER
 |
Barrier
materials block noise. Flexible noise barrier is a limp, tough,
high-temperature-fused vinyl loaded with nonlead fillers and/or
reinforced with high-strength fabric. They resist passage
of sound waves and reduce noise transmission. |

FOAM BARRIER
COMPOSITE WITH FACING
A sandwich composite incorporating
2 layers of Hushcloth acoustical foam and a single barrier septum.
When applied to sheet metal, plastic, or wood, the isolation foam layer,
typically 1/4" thick, decouples the barrier while the thicker absorption
layer reduces airborne sound. This economical acoustical system
can be formulated to provide maximum noise reduction in the harshest environment
by adding various facings or embossed surfaces.
This
composite is used in many engine compartments that are driving generators,
pumps, hydraulics, etc. The reflective mylar face helps to reject radiant
heat while the foam barrier combination gives excellent noise reduction.
Several companies request dB Engineering to cut noise and thermal "kits"
so that they can be quickly installed with the minimum amount of waste.
Note that this manufacturer uses "mechanical fasteners" to anchor
the composite to the enclosure walls and roof panels. (Click

Acoustical Floormats
dB Engineering has been supplying the transportation
industry with high quality acoustical floormats since 1979. Most of the
floormats have the same basic composites that give high noise transmission
loss as well as a handsome finished appearance for the interior of vehicle
cabs. Instead of a cheap open cell underlay, dB Engineering uses a high
quality closed cell that performs better at low frequency and does not
allow water to soak into the material. The other two composites include
a one pound per square foot barrier and a non-slip surface. (Click photo to enlarge.)

Ultima WM2X
When intense noise reduction is required in the
least amount of space, the Ultima composite will probably be the best
choice. This composite combines all three basic noise reduction properties
in one product-damping, absorption, and barrier. Several industries use
this complete composite inside vehicle cabs, medical enclosures, and electronic
housings to solve excessive and irritating noise levels.

This
composite has the advantages of being extremely durable, able
to withstand high constant service temperatures, very low thermal
conductivity, and excellent noise absorption at both high and
low frequencies. It can be combined with several facing films,
barriers, and pressure sensitive adhesives to give a composite
that will fit most applications.

and Advantages:
Alpha Style VRP-3 is a triple ply laminate of
a white vinyl face with a metalized polyester film backing,
and a fiberglass scrim tear stopper. The components are
adhered together using a high-temperature flame retardant adhesive.
It offers many advantages among which is its excellent vapor
barrier qualities. The material can be used through a
broad range of temperatures and is non-denting. The material
can also be readily cleaned. It has superior strength
and excellent light reflectivity.
